Oporto’s Mint, in the royal infrastructures in the Ribeira was a government key institution in all the North of Portugal. It played a major role in the dynamization process of central monarchy power, in Lisbon, between the late 14th century, until 1721 (it was suspended between 1607 to 1688). Archeological excavations in Casa do Infante revealed an important set of structures and materials related with the mint production, bringing to our days a new insight vision of the techniques and the social organization of the Mint, revealing a not so known proto-industrial universe in Portugal.
