Introdução: O sucesso do tratamento endodôntico não cirúrgico depende da eliminação da infeção e do selamento eficaz do sistema de canais radiculares. No entanto, a eliminação completa de microrganismos é difícil de alcançar devido à complexidade anatómica do sistema canalar. Assim, uma obturação tridimensionalmente adequada é essencial para impedir a entrada e a recolonização microbiana. Os cimentos endodônticos à base de silicato de cálcio apresentam propriedades bioativas, biocompatibilidade e potencial capacidade de selamento, constituindo uma alternativa aos cimentos endodônticos convencionais. Assim, torna-se relevante avaliar o desempenho destes materiais na manutenção do selamento apical a longo prazo. Objetivo: Avaliar a capacidade de selamento apical de diferentes cimentos endodônticos à base de silicato de cálcio. Materiais e Métodos: A pesquisa foi realizada nas bases de dados Medline/PubMed, Dentistry & Oral Sciences Source, Web of Science e Cochrane Library utilizando palavras-chave relacionadas ao tema. A seleção de estudos seguiu critérios de inclusão e exclusão previamente definidos, com triagem realizada por dois investigadores independentes. Resultados: Observou-se uma elevada heterogeneidade entre os estudos relativamente aos materiais avaliados, às técnicas de obturação e aos métodos de avaliação da microinfiltração. De um modo geral, os resultados demonstraram uma capacidade de selamento apical favorável dos cimentos à base de silicato de cálcio, embora não seja possível identificar um material superior em todas as condições experimentais. Conclusão: Os cimentos endodônticos à base de silicato de cálcio apresentaram um desempenho favorável na obturação canalar, podendo contribuir para o sucesso do tratamento endodôntico. No entanto, a heterogeneidade metodológica dos estudos disponíveis limita a comparação direta entre os diferentes cimentos. Assim, são necessários estudos futuros com protocolos padronizados, de forma a fortalecer a evidência científica existente.

However, the complete elimination of microorganisms is difficult to achieve due to the anatomical complexity of the root canal system. Therefore, an adequate three-dimensional obturation is essential to prevent microbial ingress and recolonization. Calcium silicate-based endodontic sealers exhibit bioactive properties, biocompatibility, and potential sealing ability, representing an alternative to conventional endodontic sealers. Consequently, it is relevant to evaluate the performance of these materials in maintaining long-term apical sealing. Objective: To evaluate the apical sealing ability of different calcium silicate-based endodontic sealers. Materials and Methods: A literature search was conducted in the Medline/PubMed, Dentistry & Oral Sciences Source, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library databases using keywords related to the topic. Study selection followed predefined inclusion and exclusion criteria, and screening was performed by two independent reviewers. Results: Considerable heterogeneity was observed among the studies regarding the materials evaluated, obturation techniques, and methods used to assess microleakage. Overall, the results demonstrated favorable apical sealing ability of calcium silicate-based sealers, although it was not possible to identify a superior material under all experimental conditions. Conclusion: Calcium silicate-based endodontic sealers demonstrated favorable performance in root canal obturation and may contribute to the success of endodontic treatment. However, the methodological heterogeneity of the available studies limits direct comparison among the different sealers. Therefore, future studies using standardized protocols are needed to strengthen the existing scientific evidence.
