O ourives da prata portuense Capitão Bento José Correia morreu em 1820, sendo necessário proceder a um inventário dos seus bens. Este documento, contextualizado com aspectos biográficos do ourives e da sua família, permite-nos enquadrar a vivência de um artífice dos finais do século XVIII e primeiro quartel do séc. XIX. A listagem da sua loja, com objectos de prataria civil e religiosa, revela as tipologias em uso e outros elementos curiosos do ofício são igualmente apresentados ao longo do texto.
Oporto silversmith Captain Bento José Correia died in 1820 and it was necessary to organize an inventory of his goods. This document, contextualized with the biographical aspects of the silversmith and his family, allows us to frame the experience of a craftsman of the late eighteenth century and the first quarter of the nineteenth century. The listing of his store, containing objects of civil and religious silverware, reveals the typologies in use and other curious aspects of the craft.
