Abstract(s)
The present study, is based on the Relational-Symbolic Perspective and has, as its main objective, the knowledge of the dynamics of a couple of grandparents in the case of the presence of a chronic disease in one of the elements. In this sense, the Generational Clinical Interview was used, which is constituted as a qualitative instrument that allows to study the generational changes in several situations of a couples´ life. The study was carried out with an elderly couple, from a small village in the region of Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro. The couple´s female element is a retired 76 years, and the male element of the couple is 77 years old, retired, and suffers from Parkinson's. The results apparently indicate that the disease does not have a significant impact on family dynamics and relationships. High parenting is not portrayed, which may have been compromised by the limitation of the interview. This study assumes an innovative character, which prevented the access to the necessary information and, in turn, the in-depth study of it. However, it is believed that future studies, using this instrument, may allow access to this information.
