Abstract(s)
Considering that character education is regarded as one of the main trends for moral education, institutions and educators may have the propensity and desire to implement this pedagogical program by trying to nurture the importance of ethical values among people of the younger generation. However, in certain cases, character education has not yet been included in the mainstream national curricula, that is, character education is not yet recognized as one of the primary school subjects, such as mathematics, science, languages, etc. Therefore, teachers and students may not have a proper knowledge of the purpose and usefulness of implementing deontological principles in the classroom. Therefore, this report aims to discover the possibility of associating language teaching based on literary texts to the possible moral reflections drawn from literature in order to complement and carry out character education in the teaching of Portuguese as a Foreign Language. On the one hand, the character education pedagogy is enriched by being implemented with the main school subjects. On the other hand, the introduction of ethical values becomes a natural, normal result of the objectives in the teaching of literature, where the wisdom of the ancestors and cultural traditions have resided for many centuries and bear great importance in Chinese culture. This also posits the advantage of dealing with texts that in principle are known to all and with which students are familiar, thus facilitating the process of character education and foreign language learning.
