This dissertation deepens the Christological debate between Cyril of Alexandria and Nestorius of Constantinople in the period that precedes the Council of Ephesus. Given a particular emphasis to the correspondence exchange between the two bishops, we present the theological position of each author sustained by the respective schools and positions regarding Mary's title of Theotokos. Following this study, we can introduce the connection between the two substances in Christ, in the preview of what would be the dogmatization years later in the Council of Chalcedon.
