Abstract(s)
As transformações da estrutura demográfica, social, económica e familiar
trouxeram, entre as suas diversas consequências, uma nova visibilidade social das
pessoas idosas, numa altura em que os conceitos de velhice e de envelhecimento sofrem
mudanças decorrentes dos desafios que a sociedade atual enfrenta.
O aumento progressivo da institucionalização de idosos surge como uma das
várias respostas que o Estado criou para proporcionar a satisfação das necessidades e o
bem-estar aos idosos.
A entrada para um contexto residencial implica um confronto com uma realidade
até então desconhecida, que inclui, nomeadamente, a partilha de espaços, os horários, o
regulamento interno, a ausência de privacidade, convívio com uma heterogeneidade de
pessoas, entre outros. A adaptação a esta nova realidade implica estratégias de
adaptação individualizadas e personalizadas por parte dos cuidadores formais e uma
capacidade de resiliência por parte do idoso que deverá recorrer a estratégias internas
e/ou externas de forma a conseguir a melhor ambientação possível.
É fundamental o respeito pela individualidade, personalidade, gostos, hábitos e
história de vida do utente, para evitar situações de isolamento, depressão e insatisfação
com a vida. As situações de dependência, a falta de conhecimentos e a incapacidade,
motivadas por fatores familiares e económicos, são razões que levam o idoso e/ou os
cuidadores informais a optarem por esta resposta social. O idoso, a família e o lar
devem trabalhar em conjunto para permitir que a ambientação decorra de forma natural,
respeitando a vontade, sentimentos e valores do utente.
The changes in the demographic, social, economic and family structure, brought to its various consequences, a new social visibility of the elderly, at a time when the concept of old age and aging undergoes changes resulting from the challenges that modern society faces. The progressive increase of elderly in care emerged as one of several decisions that the Government created to provide the satisfaction of needs and provide welfare for the elderly. The entrance to a residential care context implies a confrontation with a reality previously unknown particular the sharing of spaces, times, the rules, the lack of privacy and living with different people. The new reality implies individualized adaptation strategies and customized by the formal caregivers and involves resilience capacity of the elderly who should use internal and / or external strategies to get the best adaption. It is essential respect for individuality, personality, tastes, habits, and life history of the wearer to avoid situations of isolation, depression and dissatisfaction with life. The situations of dependency, lack of knowledge and unavailability motivated by family and economic factors are the reasons why the elderly and / or informal caregivers to choose this social response. The elderly, the family and the Residential care must work together to allow the setting takes place naturally respecting the will, feelings and values of the weare.
