Abstract(s)
This report describes the work carried out as a curricular internship at the Venerable Third Order of St. Francis of Porto, which included intervention on a quilt from the 18th century belonging to the institution's collection of vestments, the packing of that collection, the study of the thermohygrometric register of a possible place for the vertical exhibition of the studied and intervened piece and the awareness of the employees of the host entity, regarding the handling and packaging of textiles. The damask silk quilt with gold-plated brocade was in an advanced state of degradation due to fibre decomposition and unfavourable storage conditions which resulted in fibre dehydration, support breakage, gaps, joining breaks, marks of moisture, discoloration, oxidation of metallic elements and their detachment. The intervention was preceded by a previous analysis of the conservation status of the quilt, survey of pathologies, planning of restoration and acquisition of materials needed for it. The restoration process is described here in all its phases, according to the needs of the part, and the procedures adopted are explained. The packaging of the quilt/textile collection and the adopted methodology are also described and properly illustrated. Awareness training was also given to the team of the Venerable Third Order of St. Francis of Porto, for the proper packaging and handling of the vestments collection
