Resumo(s)
Introdução: O edentulismo afeta profundamente a dimensão funcional, estética e psicossocial do indivíduo.
Introduction: Edentulism profoundly affects the functional, aesthetic, and psychosocial dimensions of the individual. Rehabilitation with dental implants presents itself as a predictable and reliable therapy. In this context, assessing the patient's subjective perception of the treatment through Patient-Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) has become essential to determine true clinical success. Objective: To evaluate Oral Health-Related Quality of Life (OHRQoL) in patients rehabilitated with dental implants at the University Dental Clinic of the Portuguese Catholic University (CDU-FMDUCP), applying the OHIP-14 and QoLIP-10 instruments, as well as a Visual Analogue Scale (VAS). Materials and Methods: An observational, cross-sectional, and analytical study conducted on a convenience sample of 42 patients with implant-supported restorations in function. Clinical, sociodemographic, and behavioral data were collected, complemented by an intraoral examination and the administration of the surveys. The statistical analysis includes psychometric validation, the development of response profiles, and non-parametric inferential tests.
Results: The sample, predominantly >60 years old and balanced between genders, reported excellent levels of OHRQoL, with a pronounced ceiling effect being observed. The OHIP-14 achieved robust internal consistency (α=0,835) and the QoLIP-10 achieved acceptable consistency (α=0,732), but the latter demonstrated weak sensitivity. The analysis of response profiles identified vulnerabilities masked by the ceiling effect, where surgical discomfort, financial costs, and anxiety penalized satisfaction. The OHIP-14 recorded significant differences regarding the complexity of
the rehabilitation, number of implants, time in function, and regularity of appointments. On the VAS, only age generated significant differences.
Conclusion: The OHRQoL of patients rehabilitated at the CDU-FMDUCP is globally positive. The OHIP-14 and the VAS proved to be robust tools for clinical monitoring. The QoLIP-10 lacks sensitivity, and its isolated use without validation is discouraged. Treatment complexity dictates greater significant variations in satisfaction than hygiene habits, proving the utility of response profiles in detecting individual vulnerabilities and optimizing clinical follow-up.
