O diálogo entre a literatura e a teologia, em Portugal, tem sido feito de uma timidez informal. Não me refiro ao modo como a literatura se abre – mais ou menos explicitamente, mais ou menos angustiadamente – à transcendência. Nem me refiro ao modo como a teologia se abeira da literatura, não raras vezes com sobrecenho e pouca gratuidade. Parece que a história do diálogo entre a literatura e a teologia em Portugal escreve-se com uma sobreposição de monólogos. Este artigo, sem excessivas pretensões historiográficas ou epistemológicas, procura reivindicar a necessidade desse diálogo.
The dialogue between literature and theology, in Portugal, has been made with an informal timidity. I am not referring to the way in which literature opens – more or less explicitly, more or less anguished – to transcendence. Nor do I refer to the way in which theology approaches literature, often with frowning and little gratuity. It seems that the history of the dialogue between literature and theology in Portugal is written with an overlap of monologues. This article, without excessive historiographical or epistemological pretensions, seeks to claim the need for this dialogue.
