Despite the progress made in promoting gender equality, traditional attitudes toward gender roles still persist. The objective of this study was to analyze the attitudes toward gender roles among people currently employed in Portugal, focusing on inter- and intra-generational differences, particularly taking into account additional dimensions such as gender, fields of work, and sectors of activity. A sample of 188 professionals, aged between 18 and 65, completed a sociodemographic questionnaire, a professional profile questionnaire, and the Attitudes toward Gender Scale (ATGS). The results revealed statistically significant differences between generations, with more egalitarian attitudes observed among younger participants, particularly those from Generation Z. Also women exhibited significantly more egalitarian attitudes than men. In contrast, no significant differences were found based on field or sector of activity, nor were there any interaction effects between generation and the other variables analysed. It was concluded that generation and gender, taken individually, are relevant factors in understanding attitudes toward gender roles among professionals, reinforcing the importance of promoting strategies that foster gender equality in the workplace.
