The fascination with the past remains began already many centuries ago, and became an intrinsic characteristic of Western peoples, and it was under this framework that Archaeology arose as a science, based on the need for the study and preservation of the traces found. Portugal was no exception, and along with the consolidation and evolution of Archaeology as a scienti c and professional area, concerns associated with the preservation, safeguarding, and museumization of archaeological heritage appeared because of the archaeological campaigns themselves. It was in this context that the gure of the conservator-restorer gradually emerged, whose evolution, applied to archaeological goods, accompanied the development of this scienti c area, especially after April 25, 1974.eng
