O atual conflito armado entre a Ucrânia e a Rússia tem repercussões significativas em ambas as nações, bem como na Europa e no mundo. Neste contexto, o presente estudo pretende analisar as razões subjacentes ao conflito, nomeadamente o que concerne ao princípio da autodeterminação dos povos nas suas dimensões externa e interna, dado ser o principal argumento invocado pela Rússia para justificar as suas ações. Tendo em conta os esforços europeus e mundiais para debater e negociar possíveis acordos de cessar-fogo e de paz, este exercício académico tem por objetivo fornecer um breve modelo dos elementos-chave e participantes num potencial acordo de cessar-fogo neste conflito. Os elementos-chave derivam das razões expostas durante a análise e contextualização do conflito em si e dos argumentos de autodeterminação e integridade territorial apresentados pelas partes envolvidas.
The on-going armed conflict between Ukraine and Russia has significant repercussions to both nations as well as Europe and worldwide. Within this context, this study aims to analyse the reasons subjacent to the conflict, namely the Principle of Self-determination of peoples in its external and internal dimensions as it is the major argument employed by Russia to justify its actions. Given the European and worldwide efforts to discuss and negotiate possible cease-fire and peace agreements, this assessment aims to provide a brief model of the key elements and participants for a potential cease-fire agreement in this conflict. The key elements derive from the reasons unearthed during the brief analysis and contextualization of the conflict in itself and the arguments of self-determination and territorial integrity stated by the parties involved.
