| dc.description.abstract | Introdução: O local de morte tem sido cada vez mais estudado nos cuidados paliativos e nos cuidados em fim de vida. Atender Ă s preferĂȘncias dos doentes e dos seus familiares tem sido uma preocupação por parte dos profissionais de saĂșde. Dentro do contexto de cuidados paliativos centrados no doente, o local de morte Ă© considerado um indicador de qualidade dos cuidados de fim de vida. Metodologia: O objectivo principal do trabalho foi avaliar a congruĂȘncia entre o local de morte desejado e o real em doentes internados em Unidades de Cuidados Paliativos (UCP) de Portugal. Foi um estudo epidemiolĂłgico observacional, analĂtico, prospetivo. A população foi constituĂda por doentes admitidos nas UCP em Portugal de janeiro de 2017 a dezembro de 2017. Resultados e discussĂŁo: A amostra foi constituĂda por 151 doentes. A mediana de idade foi 73 anos. 53% era do sexo masculino. A doença oncolĂłgica foi a mais comum. Os tumores mais frequentes foram os gastrointestinais (35,5%), seguido de aparelho respiratĂłrio (14,3%) e mama (13,6%). Em relação ao local desejado de morte e o local real, foram estudados somente 67 doentes. Destes, 37,5% desejavam morrer em casa (familiar, prĂłpria ou de amigo) e morreram na UCP, 49,3% desejavam morrer na UCP e morreram na UCP, 1 que desejava morrer na UCP morreu no Hospital, 4,5% desejavam morrer no Hospital mas morreram na UCP, 3% nĂŁo sabia e 4,5% preferia nĂŁo dizer. No geral nĂŁo houve congruĂȘncia entre o real de morte e o desejado. NĂŁo foi possĂvel identificar por falta de significancia estatĂstica os factores associados Ă escolha do local de morte. ConclusĂŁo: Existe uma grande discrepĂąncia entre o local onde as pessoas preferem morrer e o local onde realmente morrem. | pt_PT |
| dc.description.abstract | Introduction: The place of death has been increasingly studied in palliative care and end-of-life care. Addressing the preferences of patients and their families has been a concern of health professionals. Within the context of patient-centered palliative care, the place of death is considered an indicator of quality of end-of-life care. Methodology: The main objective of the study was to evaluate the congruency between the desired and actual death site in patients admitted to the UCP in Portugal. It was an observational, analytical, prospective epidemiological study. The population was constituted by patients admitted to the Palliative Care Units in Portugal from January 2017 to December 2017. Results and discussion: The sample consisted of 151 patients. The median age was 73 years. 53% were male. Oncologic disease was the most common. The most frequent tumors were gastrointestinal 35.5%, followed by respiratory tract (14.3%) and breast (13.6%). Regarding the desired site of death and the actual site, only 67 patients were studied. Of these, 37.5% wanted to die at home (family, own or friend) and died in the UCP, 49.3 wanted to die in the UCP and died in the UCP, 1 who wanted to die in the UCP died in the Hospital, 4.5% died in the Hospital but died in the UCP, 3% did not know and 4.5% preferred not to say. In general there was no congruence between the actual death and the desired one. The factors associated with the choice of place of death could not be identified due to lack of statistical significance. Conclusion: In conclusion there is still a large discrepancy between where people prefer to die and where they actually. | pt_PT |
