Introdução: A cárie dentária é uma doença multifatorial altamente prevalente, sendo definida como disbiose do biofilme dentário induzida pelo açúcar. É determinada pela interação de fatores biológicos, comportamentais, psicossociais e ambientais ao longo do tempo. O flúor representa uma das principais estratégias de prevenção da cárie, pois favorece a remineralização do esmalte dentário, reduzindo a desmineralização e limitando a atividade bacteriana. É dada especial atenção ao uso de flúor de alta frequência e baixa concentração, como por exemplo os dentifrícios fluoretados. Objetivo: O objetivo desse estudo foi avaliar as evidências científicas disponíveis sobre a forma de utilização do uso de dentífricos fluoretados de baixa concentração e alta frequência e o impacto na sua disponibilidade oral e no efeito anticariogénico. Materiais e métodos: Esta revisão sistemática é baseada nas diretrizes PRISMA. A questão PICO foi “Existe consenso e evidência científica nas formas de utilização de produtos para saúde oral com flúor de baixa concentração e alta frequência “. Foi realizada uma pesquisa nas bases de dados Pubmed, Web of Science e Cochrane para identificar estudos clinicos à respeito do uso de dentífrico fluoretado de baixa concentração e alta frequência e mais especificamente sobre o relato de bocheco após a escovagem. Os estudos foram selecionados, através da plataforma Rayyan’s Intelligent Systematic Review Platform, com os critérios de inclusão e exclusão. Os dados foram recolhidos de forma independente por dois revisores, garantindo a consistência do processo de extração. A avaliação da qualidade metodológica foi realizada com recurso à ferramenta RoB2. Resultados: Foram identificados 287 artigos. Após a exclusão dos duplicados, 264 foram avaliados por título e resumo, dos quais 14 foram selecionados para leitura integral. Um total de 5 estudos foram incluídos e demonstraram que concentrações mais elevadas de flúor e a ausência de enxágue após a escovação resultam numa maior e mais prolongada retenção de flúor salivar. Conclusão: O dentifricio fluoretado de baixa concentração e alta frequência, é mais eficaz quando ocorre a ausência de enxaguamento após a escovagem, devido ao aumento da retenção de flúor e na potência do seu efeito anticariogénico.

It is determined by the interaction of biological, behavioural, psychosocial, and environmental factors over time. Fluoride represents one of the main strategies for preventing caries, as it promotes the remineralization of dental enamel, reducing demineralization and limiting bacterial activity. Special attention is given to the use of high-frequency, low-concentration fluoridated toothpastes, such as fluoridated toothpastes. Objective: The objective of this study was to evaluate the available scientific evidence on the effectiveness of using low-concentration, high-frequency fluoridated toothpastes in relation to different forms of fluoride use, its impact on oral availability, and its anticariogenic effect. Materials and methods: This systematic review is based on the PRISMA guidelines. The PICO question was “Is there consensus and scientific evidence on the ways to use low-concentration, high-frequency fluoride oral health products?” A search was conducted in the PubMed, Web of Science, and Cochrane databases to identify clinical studies that discuss the use of low-concentration, high-frequency fluoridated toothpaste, and more specifically, the report of rinsing after brushing. Studies were selected using Rayyan’s Intelligent Systematic Review Platform, with inclusion and exclusion criteria. Data were collected independently by two reviewers, ensuring the consistency of the extraction process. Methodological quality assessment was performed using the RoB2 tool. Results: A total of 287 articles were identified. After removing duplicates, 264 were assessed by title and abstract, of which 14 were selected for full-text reading. A total of 5 studies were included and demonstrated that higher fluoride concentrations and the absence of rinsing after toothbrushing result in greater and more prolonged salivary fluoride retention. Conclusion: Low-concentration, high-frequency fluoridated toothpaste is the most effective when rinsing is not required after brushing, due to increased fluoride retention and the potency of its anti-cariogenic effect.
