Abstract(s)
With the entertainment market constantly growing, fields such as fiction have been reinventing themselves, exploring new ways of meeting the audience preferences. In this context, music emerges as an instrument capable of shaping the tone of narratives and arousing emotions. Even so, its role goes beyond intensifying dramatic scenes, and it is also a tool widely used in the production of one of the most appreciated forms of entertainment: humor. This study arises from the need to understand the role of music in the production of humor in the context of fiction, using one of the most recent and successful series from RTP, Pôr do Sol, and its original band, Jesus Quisto. In defining this object of study, the aim is to answer the central question “What is the role of Jesus Quisto songs in the construction of the humorous narrative on the series Pôr do Sol?”. To this end, the theoretical part addresses concepts such as entertainment, fiction, humor and musical comedy, which serve as the basis for the methodological part of the study. By conducting two interviews with members of the series and holding two focus groups to analyze the reactions and perspectives of the different audiences about Jesus Quisto and their introduction in the series, it is possible to understand that one of the most important elements for awakening humor through music in fiction is precisely the context of the narrative. It can also be concluded that the musical comedy can effectively add value to the series and can even transcend it and reach new audiences. The production of humor through music does not only depend on its songs, but also on a wide range of elements, such as the context, the lyrics, the visual elements or the audience's own musical preferences. Although when developing Pôr do Sol the creators saw the Jesus Quisto as a natural complement to the narrative, for the public - and especially the fans - they really were an indispensable element that has become a phenomenon in the Portuguese pop culture.
