Abstract(s)
Accidents are the leading cause of death and disability in children, thus becoming a public health problem. Several international and national entities emphasize that environmental safety and accidents are constant, in the first line prevention care provided to children and that should be our focus. The nurse must develop interventions that lead to risk reduction by creating safe environments. Pender’s health promotion model is one of the nursing models aimed at improving the quality of care and promoting safety by changing behaviors through nursing actions. The prevention of accidents and teaching the child/adolescent to protect themselves from risky situations are issues that are part of their education and development process. Emphasis should also be placed on involvement whit parents/caregivers at this level. The main goal of the intervention was to develop the competencies of nursing specialist in assisting children and their families, in all contexts, in order prevent accidents. Thus, specific objectives were set and activities were developed both with health professionals and with children/families, according to the project methodology and taking into account the scientific evidence, following protocols; guidance documents; brochures and posters; training sessions and health education. The interventions developed allowed a greater awareness of the theme and consequently the adoption of healthy behaviors. This study describes a reflective analysis of the interventions aiming the promotion of health in children.
