Abstract(s)
This dissertation aimed to understand young people's perspectives on gender based violence in night-time environments, as well as the relevance and effectiveness of the Lilac Points in securing these environments. To this end, a qualitative analysis was carried out of interviews conducted in Barcelona with 15 young people/adults of different genders, aged between 18-24. The study addressed the participants' knowledge, experiences, and arguments to understand the connection between behaviors in nightlife contexts, gender issues, and substance use. The results showed the normalization of these factors, as well as the persistence of gender-based violence, exacerbated by the increased vulnerability resulting from psychoactive substance use. It also highlighted the need for effective responses to prevent such incidents in these spaces, emphasizing the importance of timely and active education of individuals, the deconstruction of patriarchal norms, and initiatives like Lilac Points as essential tools for achieving this goal. In conclusion, Lilac Points, as a response to the prevention of harassment and violence in nightlife spaces, are recognized as an effective measure, providing venue-goers with a sense of safety. However, some criticisms of the model were also noted, including the need for a more proactive intervention and greater education for those attending these venues.
