This Internship Report, developed within the framework of the 18th Master’s Degree in Child and Paediatric Health Nursing at the Portuguese Catholic University – Porto, documents and critically reflects on the educational pathway undertaken towards obtaining the Master’s degree and consolidating the competencies of a Specialist Nurse in Child and Paediatric Health Nursing, in accordance with the Portuguese Nursing Council’s competency framework. The internship took place in three clinical settings—Neonatal Intensive Care Unit , Paediatric Emergency Department, and Primary Health Care (Community Care Unit and Family Health Unit)—enabling the integration of different levels of care and the consolidation of a continuity-of-care perspective centred on the child/young person and the family. A descriptive-reflective methodology was adopted, grounded in evidence-based practice, linking activities, objectives and competencies across the domains of direct care, management, education and research. The reflection highlighted the development of technical-scientific and relational competencies in managing highly complex situations, with a focus on patient safety and quality of care, therapeutic communication, humanised and neuroprotective care, partnership approach with families aimed and parental empowerment. It is concluded that excellence in Child and Paediatric Health Nursing requires combining advanced technical expertise with humanised, family-centred care, supported by evidence and oriented towards health gains and continuity of care.
