Abstract(s)
This study aims to better understand the characteristics of digital platform workers in the Portuguese context. In addition, we intend to test the existence of a positive relationship between the perception of organizational support (PSO) and variables such as engagement, burnout and work-life balance. Finally, this study also aims to understand whether these relationships are moderated by the motivation of these workers to find themselves in this work format. Data were collected through an online questionnaire, and a sample of 271 participants was obtained. The results show that the digital platform workers in the sample are mostly male, married, with an average age of 41 years, working on 2 or more platforms between 40 and 60 hours per week. It was also possible to verify that when these workers perceive a higher PSO by the platform, they feel more engagement and less burnout; however, this perception is not significantly related to the reconciliation of work and personal life. Regarding the effects of moderation, it was confirmed that when digital platform workers feel more intrinsic motivation, the relationship is stronger between the POS and their engagement. The effects of intrinsic motivation as a possible mediator between POS and the other variables under study were also tested. The mediating role of intrinsic motivation was confirmed in the relationship between POS and their burnout, but it was not significantly related to work-life balance.
