| dc.description.abstract | Este trabalho consiste numa revisão de literatura sobre as relações entre a evolução da população e a evolução da economia. Na primeira parte estudam-se os autores que se interessaram principalmente pelos impactos da evolução da população no crescimento económico, considerando a demografia como um factor exógeno. Na segunda parte estudam-se os autores que se interessaram pelas relações de causalidade no sentido inverso. Na terceira parte estudam-se os autores que têm em conta a existência de relações de interdependência entre evolução da população e evolução da economia. Com este tipo de relações pode-se dar conta de situações onde existem ciclos virtuosos ou viciosos ligando aquelas duas evoluções. Desta revisão de literatura conclui-se que as características e a evolução da população são factores muito relevantes para compreender a estrutura, o funcionamento e a dinâmica da economia, mas as relações entre demografia e economia são complexas. Não há uma teoria que permita chegar a conclusões sobre este assunto que possam ser válidas para todo o tempo e lugar. Por isso, o estudo destas questões tem que ser geográfica e temporalmente localizado, devendo também ter em conta que as relações que ligam factores demográficos e factores económicos são de interdependência e não de causalidade unidireccional. | por |
| dc.description.abstract | This work is a literature review about the relationships between the evolution of the population and the evolution of the economy. The first part covers the authors interested mostly in the impacts on economic growth resulting from the evolution of the population, considering demography as an exogenous factor. The second part covers the authors interested mostly in the causality going in the opposite direction. The third part covers the authors who take into account the existence of interdependencies between the dynamics of demography and the economy. With this kind of relationships it is possible to take into account situations where there are virtuous and vicious cycles connecting those two dynamics. From this literature review it is possible to conclude that the characteristics and the evolution of the population are very relevant factors to understand the structure, the functioning and the dynamics of the economy, but the relationships between demography and economy are complex. There is no theory from which one can draw conclusions valid for all time and place. Therefore, the study of these questions has to be specified for place and time. It, also, has to take into account the fact that the relationships connecting demographic and economic factors have the nature of interdependencies and are not unidirectional causality. | |
