vida destes pacientes.
Introduction: Oral health is a fundamental element for the general health and well-being of the human being. However, individuals with intellectual disabilities are more likely to present oral problems. Objectives: This study aims to compare the oral health of an adult population with intellectual disability with one other with an intellectual disability, analyzing how oral health affects the quality of life of individuals. Materials and methods: A cross-sectional descriptive observational study was carried out on a sample of 240 individuals aged between 18 and 61 years old, using the sociodemographic and oral health questionnaire, OHIP-14 survey, and a clinical examination guided by COHI, COCNI and COPI. Results: In the intraoral examination, it was possible to notice that more than half of the population had oral problems with severe impact on health and 85% had high need for oral health education and prevention. Regarding the impact of oral health on quality of life, the dimensions with a greater impact are: "2. physical pain” and "3. psychological discomfort". The use of prostheses, oral problems and the need for caring may also have an impact on the quality of life. The oral hygiene habits of the population with intellectual disabilities are much lower than those observed in the population without intellectual disability, and consequently, the population with intellectual disabilities have a poor oral health. Conclusion: Given the high prevalence of oral cavity problems observed in the study, as well as its strong impact on the quality of life, the incentive to practice a correct oral hygiene, as well as the awareness of the importance of oral health are of great importance. On the other hand, because the oral health problems are more prevalent in the population with disabilities, the specific training of health professionals for this population, the correct performance of the caregiver's role and the implementation of public oral health programs are essential for significantly improve the low levels of oral health and quality of life of these patients.
