- Construções marianas portuguesas dos séculos XIX e XX.Publication . Neto, José Augusto Monteiro; Abreu, José Paulo Leite deThis study explores the deep devotion to the Virgin Mary in Portugal and its architectural representation during significant cultural and religious changes. Using a comprehensive methodology that combines documentary research, semi-structured interviews, and place visits, the author examines the architectural features of major Marian buildings, the related devotional practices, and the social dynamics that influenced their construction and upkeep. The findings reveal that these structures not only reflect the faith of the Portuguese people but also play a vital role in shaping the country's cultural identity and religious history. The dissertation concludes with recommendations for future research, including comparative studies and an examination of the social impact of Marian festivities.
- Upcycled orange peel ingredients: a scoping review on phytochemical composition, extraction techniques, and biorefinery strategiesPublication . Vilas-Boas, Ana A.; Magalhães, Daniela; Gómez-García, Ricardo; Campos, Débora A.; Correia, Marta; Pintado, ManuelaBackground/Objectives: Orange peels (OP), a major by-product of the juice industry, are rich in bioactive compounds (phenolic compounds, pectin, carotenoids, and essential oils). Its valorization represents a promising route to reduce food waste and foster a circular bioeconomy. This review aimed to map scientific progress in OP upcycling, focusing on the extraction of bioactive ingredients for human nutrition and integrated biorefinery approaches aligned with zero-waste principles. Methods: A bibliometric analysis and a scoping review were conducted covering studies published between 2003 and 2023. Scopus database and VOSviewer was usedto identify research trends, hotspots, and gaps. Conventional and emerging green extraction methods were critically compared, and integrated biorefinery strategies for maximizing OP valorization were systematically assessed. Results: The analysis revealed an exponential rise in OP research over the past decade, reflecting growing interest in sustainable food waste valorization. Polyphenoland pectin-rich extracts are currently the focus of research and applications, driven by their high economic and nutritional value. Innovative multi-extraction and zero-waste biorefinery models have emerged, yet most remain at low technological readiness levels. Carotenoids and other bioactive compounds remain underexplored, and challenges persist regarding standardization and scalability. Conclusions: OP valorization is shifting towards integrated green extraction and biorefinery frameworks that address clean-label demands, promote circular economy goals, and align with the Sustainable Development Goals. Future research should prioritize (i) standardized protocols, (ii) scalable green extraction technologies, (iii) the inclusion of underutilized compounds such as carotenoids, and (iv) regulatory pathways to accelerate industrial translation.
- Desafios da gestão curricular em grupos turma do 1.º Ciclo. : a perceção de alunos e encarregados de educação do 3.º e 4.º anos de escolaridade sobre a disciplina e os conteúdos de EMRCPublication . Lima, Raúl Nelson Afonso Azevedo; Moreira, Carlos Manuel MenesesThe present study primarily sought to examine perceptions regarding the subject of EMRC and the content of its curriculum. The adopted methodology consisted of a questionnaire administered to parents/guardians and to students in the 3rd and 4th grades of School No. 2 of Lamaçães – Braga, within the D. Maria II School Cluster. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. The findings highlight that the perceived value of the subject depends less on its programmatic content than on the pedagogical approaches underpinning classroom practice. Student-centered methodologies oriented toward the promotion of universal values emerge as decisive in shaping a positive perception, both among parents/guardians and among students. The results further demonstrate that the subject is validated when it contributes to students’ ethical, social, and cultural development, aligning with a framework of citizenship and the promotion of values. Among parents/guardians, high levels of acceptance are observed when the subject is perceived as fostering respect, solidarity, and social justice, in contrast with reservations associated with its confessional dimension. From the students’ perspective, the indicators confirm high levels of satisfaction, with EMRC being recognized as a space for personal and social growth. In conclusion, the social perception of EMRC is shaped by the balance between its confessional identity and its capacity to establish itself as a plural educational space, capable of promoting transversal values and contributing to the integral development of students.
