- A excelência do cuidado especializado : segurança da pessoa em situação críticaPublication . Delgado, Inês Tavares; Fernandes, Filipa Alexandra VeludoThe internship report is integrated within the scope of the Master’s Degree in MedicalSurgical Nursing in the area of Nursing for Critically Ill Patients, by the Institute of Health Sciences, of the Portuguese Catholic University of Lisbon, intending to demonstrate the common and specific skills of an expert nurse and academic skills of master, developed along the way. To carry out this report, was used as a thought guiding line, the Theory of Transitions by Afaf Meleis, towards excellent care. Alongside the clinical path, in order to contribute to the quality of care, research was carried out in the area of emotional changes, namely burnout and stress, integrated into the safety of critical ill patient. This desire and need is due to the perception of the influence that these changes have had in care, with regard to errors and adverse events that have occurred. In order to develop skills, I opted for an internship in two care contexts: in a Central Emergency Service and in a Cardio-Thoracic Surgery Intensive Care Unit. At the Central Emergency Service I focused my care on the resuscitation room, where prevails care for critical ill patients and their family. As it’s a context where infection control and antimicrobial resistance is inherently limited, due to the priority given to the healthdisease situation, I sought to contribute to the quality of care in the use of filters in people who need assisted ventilation. At the Cardio-Thoracic Surgery Intensive Care Unit, I centered my care on the critical ill patients undergoing cardiac or thoracic surgery and their family, with the specificity of being submitted to ECMO, mechanical ventricular assistance and heart or lung transplantation.
