- O impacto da doença renal crónica e tratamento nas dinâmicas familiares do pacientePublication . Olim, Marta Seabra Moura de Freitas Pita de; Monteiro, Teresa LíbanoEste estudo tem como objectivo principal a investigação do impacto da doença renal crónica e respectivo tratamento, na actividade profissional, na vida familiar e no Self do paciente. No fundo, são exploradas as narrativas, as representações que cada um realiza relativamente à sua doença/tratamento e de que forma, segundo os próprios, o processo de doença/tratamento influencia a dinâmica familiar – conjugal e parental – bem como todos os processos de relação social, onde o paciente se inscreve, evidenciando ainda os processos emocionais. Quando a doença renal crónica acontece na vida de uma pessoa, a mesma é invadida por um conjunto de sentimentos contraditórios, ambivalentes, com reflexos intensos na família. Esta investigação teve, por base, as seguintes questões de pesquisa: quais as implicações da doença renal crónica e respectivo tratamento na trajectória profissional, familiar (conjugal e parental), bem como noutras redes de sociabilidades e ao nível do Self? Para responder a estas questões realizou-se o estudo num hospital da zona de Lisboa, entre Outubro de 2012 e Janeiro de 2013. Os doentes em hemodiálise que integram este estudo, encontram-se a realizar tratamento em centros extra-hospitalares da sua área de residência, os outros doentes, realizam diálise peritoneal e são seguidos no mesmo hospital. Utilizou-se uma estratégia compreensiva, recorrendo a técnicas de recolha e análise da informação de natureza qualitativa. Foram realizadas entrevistas semi-directivas, em profundidade, a treze pacientes com doença renal crónica em tratamento de substituição da função renal (hemodiálise ou diálise peritoneal. Os resultados apontam para o facto desta doença e tratamento serem processos que produzem dor e mal-estar, de natureza física e psíquica, exigindo um reajustamento lento e singular, mas que deve ser compreendido no contexto profissional e familiar dos pacientes. A doença e o tratamento atingem a sua família, cuja representação da doença e comportamento afecta, por sua vez, o próprio doente.
- Is enganging in corporate social responsability enough? : what could companies do in order to increase the shared value transmitted to stakeholders? : the EDP CasePublication . Azevedo, Luiza Trompowsky Taulois de; Pinheiro, Susana FrazãoThe main aim of this dissertation paper is to study how can companies create Shared Value (CSV) to a given community, by engaging in Strategic Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). The problem statement relies on questioning if CSR is the best solution to provide CSV or if there must be something else a company must do, namely, create a special segment in order to address this subject matter. In order to comply with the objective of explaining the problem statement, a study case was built with EDP Group, the leader in the energy sector in Portugal, as well as its Foundation; EDP Foundation, leader in the tertiary sector in the same country. The case study is important to analyze if the companies which address CSR are delivering the shared value desired by society, or if it would be better for them to address CSR by the means of a Foundation, or a different entity, that deals solely with the tertiary sector. The structure of this dissertation consists in five main chapters: (1) Introduction, referring to aim, scope and methodology that will be used in the dissertation paper; (2) Literature Review, addressing the academic background for CSR, Strategic CSR and CSV; (3) Case Study, presenting EDP Group and EDP Foundation; (4) Teaching Notes, discussing the case study while implementing theory to the given questions, as well as providing the guidance Professors will need to conduct the study case to students; (5) Conclusions, Limitations and Future Research, that mainly discusses the relevance of taking a strategic and shared value approach to CSR.
- Intellectual Property Rights vs. access to medicines : the impact on the CSR strategy of pharmaceutical companies : the case of GlaxoSmithKlinePublication . Torres, Rita Fonseca Santos Monteiro; Pinheiro, Susana FrazãoThe aim of this dissertation is to study how Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is integrated in companies, with a special focus on the pharmaceutical industry. The problem statement relies on understanding how has the tension between the accessibility of essential medicines in developing countries and Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) influenced the CSR strategy of multinational companies in the pharmaceutical industry over the last years. In order to act in accordance with this objective, a teaching case was developed, based on GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), a British multinational pharmaceutical that is the world’s second largest pharmaceutical company and world leader in the provision of drugs to treat the three most critical diseases in the developing world: HIV/AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis. GSK was the first company from the industry to approach the access to medicines issue as a strategic consideration, by incorporating it not only in its CSR strategy but also in the company’s overall strategy. The challenge faced translates how CSR practices, when adopted strategically, can simultaneously create economic and social value.
