- Saúde mental em pediatria e a sua promoção pelo enfermeiro especialistaPublication . Pires, Telma Raquel Ferreira; Romeiro, Joana MarquesThe emergence of the COVID-19 respiratory disease in 2019/2020 has highlighted some health conditions, particularly in terms of mental health. There has been an increase in the number of children/adolescents who have come to pediatric emergency services for psychiatric conditions/symptoms, namely anxiety, depression and suicidal ideation. As a health professional in the field of Pediatrics area, with a professional background in Pediatric emergency care, and a future nurse specializing in child and Pediatric health, it is needed to reflect about these issues, particularly the impact that it’ll have in the future life’s of this population, as well as what can be done to minimize this impact. Sensibilizing health professionals about this issue and explaining the approach to children/adolescents and their families in these conditions is a priority. Thus, the theme developed throughout the Master's course in Child and Pediatric Health Nursing, which will be explained later on, is related to the repercussions of COVID-19 on anxiety, depression and suicidal ideation in pediatric age, and the promotion of mental health has become the focus in this path. Throughout this report, I will describe the objectives that I set out to achieve during my internships, as well as the activities carried out to that end. The specific competences of the specialist nurse that I believe I have achieved will be mentioned, as well as the common competences in each internship context. This report also aims to provide a critical and reflective analysis of my development and what I had learned during my internships, as well as the skills I have improved as a master in nursing. The internship projects developed in each clinical context were based on the Project Methodology and all the work developed was inspired by nursing theorist Hildegard Peplau and her theory, the Theory of Interpersonal Relationships.
