- Digital transformation patterns for business model innovationPublication . Braun, Felix Sebastian; Bohnsack, RenéNowadays, organizations are increasingly affected by a phenomenon called digital transformation. Digital technologies, such as the internet or mobile technologies, lead to a shift in the value creation, value delivery and value capture processes of firms. This change can be either incremental or radical, however, there is a consensus among academics that business models are reshaped. One promising heuristic tool to systematically support business model innovation are patterns, which can be described proven solutions to reoccurring problems in a business model context. Although there are various consolidations of existing business model patterns, a structured overview of digital transformation patterns is missing. To create a digital transformation pattern taxonomy for business model innovation, this dissertation applies the modified-Delphi card sorting methodology by Paul (2008) which connects a Delphi approach with card sorting methodologies. In an iterative way, a total of 9 experts in the field of digital transformation were asked to classify 48 digital transformation into meaningful groups. The final taxonomy not only supports practitioners’ creativity and collaboration in the business model innovation process but also can enhance the understanding of digital transformation. In addition, the pattern taxonomy could facilitate further analysis of business model patterns as well as well as scientific discussions in this area.
