The aim of this Work was to evaluate the influence of external parameters on the degradation of 4-nitrophenol by a bacterial consortium. The bacterial cconsortium, isolated by enrichment from the rhizosphere of phragmiles australis, was capable of utilising 4-NP as the sole carbone, and energy source. Degradation was studied under different conditions using resting cells. Among those, this influence of ascorbic acid and of plant extract obtained from P. australis was studies. Biodegradation of 4-NP was enhanced in the presence of these components. This work is part of a wider study on the use of phyto-microbial complexes to attenuated soil and water pollution.por
