Abstract(s)
With a remarkable educational background in social work and also in social and human sciences, Marie-Thérèse C. Lévêque went to Portugal in 1935 to take up the directorship of the first Portuguese school of social work (the Instituto de Serviço Social, in Lisbon), a position she held until 1946. Through her work and personal charisma, Miss Lévêque left her mark on this school's students and teachers, and made a significant contribution to the rise of a new professional activity in Portugal, which was open to women.
