Examining dynamic capabilities for navigating uncertainty in the renewable energy industry : a qualitative analysis based on insights from industry experts

| dc.description.abstract | In light of the urgency of the transition to sustainable energy, the renewable energy sector is at the forefront of industrial change and industrial transformation. This thesis investigates the critical role of dynamic capabilities in managing the inherent uncertainties within this sector. Dynamic capabilities, i.e. the organizational processes that enable it to adapt to and exploit external change, are examined to understand how they contribute to strategic resilience. Employing Mayring's qualitative content analysis, this study analyzes interviews with renewable energy experts. The analysis integrates inductive and deductive reasoning to crystallize the deployment of dynamic capabilities in response to uncertainties related to policy, technology, and market fluctuations. Based on the findings of the analysis dynamic capabilities are pivotal for renewable energy firms to sense shifts in the energy landscape, seize emerging opportunities, and transform their operations in line with a changing environment. However, implementation in practice is not well-researched and a specific systematic approach is often lacking. | dc.description.abstract | Tendo em conta a urgência da transição para a energia sustentável, o sector das energias renováveis está na vanguarda da mudança e da transformação industrial. Esta tese investiga o papel crítico das capacidades dinâmicas na gestão das incertezas inerentes a este sector. As capacidades dinâmicas, ou seja, os processos organizacionais que permitem a adaptação e a capitalização das mudanças externas, são analisadas para compreender como contribuem para a resiliência estratégica. Utilizando a análise de conteúdo qualitativa de Mayring, este estudo analisa entrevistas com especialistas em energias renováveis. A análise integra o raciocínio indutivo e dedutivo para cristalizar a utilização das capacidades dinâmicas em resposta às incertezas relacionadas com a política, a tecnologia e as flutuações do mercado. Com base nas conclusões da análise, as capacidades dinâmicas são fundamentais para que as empresas de energias renováveis sintam as mudanças no panorama energético, aproveitem as oportunidades emergentes e transformem as suas operações de acordo com um ambiente em mudança. No entanto, a implementação na prática não está bem estudada e falta frequentemente uma abordagem sistemática específica.
