Abstract(s)
The recent global pandemic, which we still witness incredulous, has triggered multiple reactions in the current public sphere. In this diversity of verbal utterances, the essays and studies of thinkers and sociologists deserve to be highlighted, as well as other verbal discourses, in the general framework of argumentation as an integral part of discourse analysis. In the literary and cultural field, among other discursive forms, a multiform, chronic genre has been highlighted. In Portugal, as in Brazil, several chroniclers have analyzed this sanitary and social phenomenon of the pandemic, in its various dimensions. They have been using various discursive strategies, from the reflection of an ensaistic nature, to the manifestations of humor and irony, thus combining a plural record, sometimes serious and dramatic, sometimes graceful, and comical, albeit always critical. In this context, we propose the critical analysis of a particular book, written by Isabel Cristina Mateus, where the chronicle alternatively reflects on various seriously taken topics, and humorously taken ones, in a healthy witty mood.
