| dc.description.abstract | Proteins derived from insects, especially Tenebrio molitor, offer a promising sustainable source of bioactive compounds. This research aimed to access the biological activities of protein hydrolysates extracted from T. molitor flour, with particular emphasis on their impact on lipid metabolism and oxidative stress in adipocyte models. The hydrolysates were created via enzymatic hydrolysis and thoroughly analyzed for their nutritional, technological, and biological characteristics. In vitro experiments using adipocyte cultures evaluated glucose uptake, lipid accumulation, adipokine secretion (leptin and adiponectin), and cellular antioxidant capacity under oxidative stress conditions. The hydrolysates contained over 60% protein, comprising low molecular weight peptides and essential amino acids, and had a high proportion of unsaturated fatty acids. In adipocyte models, they promoted glucose uptake and influenced adipokine secretion, suggesting a modulatory role in energy metabolism. However, lipid accumulation increased by 13% relative to controls. Additionally, an antioxidant activity was observed in cells exposed to oxidative stress. Collectively, T. molitor hydrolysates exhibit bioactive properties relevant to metabolic health by regulating adipocyte function, highlighting their potential as functional ingredients in health-oriented products. | eng |
