| dc.description.abstract | Se, na comédia plautina, a cortesã aparece quase sempre retratada como uma mala meretrix, com Terêncio ela afasta-se do seu carácter tradicional e é apresentada de um modo diferente. Este estudo pretende, através da análise de cada uma das cortesãs terencianas, demonstrar que a maioria delas não se preocupa apenas em assegurar o seu futuro, procura também - através de uma conduta nobre e generosa, e, por vezes, com um sorriso desencantado e uma profunda compreensão das amarguras humanas, em resultado da longa experiência de sofrimento que possui - reabilitar a sua imagem e ser digna do respeito e da estima das outras pessoas. | pt_PT |
| dc.description.abstract | If, in the Plautine comedy, the courtesan is almost always depicted as the mala meretrix, in Terence she distances from her traditional character and is presented in a different way. Through the analysis of each one of Terence's courtesans, this study aims to show that most of them do not worry about having a safe future. Through a noble and generous behaviour, and, sometimes with a disenchanted and deep understanding of human suffering, as a result from their long experience of distress, they also aim to rehabilitate their image in order to deserve other people's respect and esteem. | pt_PT |
