Nas últimas décadas o empreendedorismo tem sido uma temática alvo de interesse académico. Reconhece-se a sua importância pelo facto de ser um forte impulsionador do crescimento económico, por estimular a criação de emprego e de produtos inovadores, por ser um meio de acesso ao mercado de trabalho e por gerar mudanças que podem acarretar melhores condições de vida para os indivíduos e para toda a sociedade. Associada à importância do empreendedorismo, assiste-se ao aumento do número de iniciativas no ensino com vista à promoção do empreendedorismo. Este artigo aborda a história e o conceito de empreendedorismo, bem como o conceito e as características do empreendedor e apresenta ainda alguns motivos que podem levar os indivíduos a empreender no seu percurso profissional. Neste artigo mostra-se também a importância que o ensino tem no desenvolvimento de competências empreendedoras.
O presente estudo foi realizado no Pólo de Viseu da Universidade Católica Portuguesa e foram inquiridos 348 alunos. Os resultados obtidos permitiram concluir que o sexo não influenciava a criação de empresas e a perceção do futuro profissional dos alunos. Porém, o grau de ensino frequentado estava relacionado com o emprego preferido pelos alunos.
In recent decades entrepreneurship has been a thematic subject of academic interest. Its importance by being a strong driver of economic growth, to stimulate job creation and innovative products is recognized for being a means of access to the labor market and to generate changes that can lead to better living conditions for individuals and for society. Associated with the importance of entrepreneurship, we are seeing an increasing number of initiatives in education to promote entrepreneurship. This article discusses the history and concept of entrepreneurship as well as the concept and the characteristics of the entrepreneur and also presents some reasons that may lead individuals to engage in their professional careers. This article also shows up the importance that education has on the development of entrepreneurial skills. The present study was conducted in Viseu pole of the Portuguese Catholic University and 348 students were surveyed. The results showed that gender did not influence the business creation and perception of the professional future of students. However, the level of education attended was related to the preferred employment for students.
