Resumo(s)
According to the latest data provided by the National Institute of Statistics in 2014, about 70 Portuguese die daily as a result of malignant tumors, what makes cancer the second leading cause of death in Portugal, a number that has never been so high. Considering this context and the still segregated scenery in public institutions and health services, "SaudavelMente" is a project that aims to promote a more holistic care approach covering medicine and psychology, through the study and joint intervention in the functioning of systems involved in the interconnection between mind and body in order to promote a higher cancer cure rate. The functioning of the immune system is affected by the hormonal system and the Vagus nerve mechanism, which is basically the mechanism in our body that relates to the way we interact with internal and external stimuli, the world around us. What we feel and think in our day-to-day stimulate the glands to produce hormones that affect every cell of the body and its development. In addition to a medical and psychological intervention, it makes sense to invest in an intervention toward an integrated operation of these mechanisms. Based on the survivor’s psychological profile and on the study of spontaneous remission cases, the proposal is to explore such features and implement an intervention to drive patients to develop feelings and thoughts that can contribute to the healing process.
