| dc.description.abstract | This study investigates the determinants of schooling choice at the entrance to the secondary level of males and females individuals in Portugal. We aim to identify variables that are significantly affecting the individual’s choice between following vocational or general education in the 10th year of school. Family, individual and school factors such as parental education and occupation, wealth of the family, math grades, time distance of school are considered. Furthermore, we want to address how participation in extra-curriculum activities (i.e. in students’ club, political party, association for the defence of human rights and solidarity institution) affects the choice characterizing the development of non-cognitive skills in students who joined before the entrance in the 10th grade. Using a probit model, the study will be providing empirical evidence on the impact of socioeconomic status of the family, cognitive and non-cognitive abilities of individuals and school quality characteristics on the students’ choice. | pt_PT |
| dc.description.abstract | Este estudo investiga os determinantes da escolha escolar na entrada do nível secundário de indivíduos do sexo masculino e feminino em Portugal. Pretendemos identificar variáveis que afetem significativamente a escolha do indivíduo entre o ensino vocacional ou geral no 10º ano de escola. Fatores familiares, individuais e escolares, como a educação e ocupação dos pais, a riqueza da família, as notas de matemática, o tempo de distância da escola são considerados. Além disso, queremos abordar como a participação em atividades extra-curriculares (ou seja, no clube de estudantes, partido político, associação para a defesa de direitos humanos e instituição solidária) afeta a escolha que caracteriza o desenvolvimento de habilidades não cognitivas em estudantes que se juntaram antes a entrada no 10º ano. Usando um modelo de probit, o estudo fornecerá evidências empíricas sobre o impacto do status socioeconômico da família, habilidades cognitivas e não cognitivas de indivíduos e características de qualidade escolar na escolha dos estudantes. | pt_PT |
