Este trabalho pretende explorar as semânticas associadas à ideia de destino através da análise das palavras construídas pelo radical mnh que se encontram no Antigo Testamento: o verbo mānāh, o nome comum menāṯe o nome próprio Meny. É uma análise também quantitativa e comporta, sobretudo, uma pesquisa incidente nas traduções para Língua Portuguesa. Percorrerá algumas das principais ocorrências de termos que possam corresponder ao espetro semântico de “destino” na literatura do antigo Oriente. Problematiza-se, por fim, a questão do destino na sua relação com temáticas como a adivinhação, a guerra e o messianismo.
This paper aims to explore the semantics associated with the idea of destiny by analyzing the words constructed by the radical mnh found in the Old Testament: the verb mānāh, the common name menāṯ and the proper name Meny. It’s an also quantitative analysis and includes, above all, a research incident in the Portuguese tongue translations. Finally, the question of destiny is problematized in its relationship with themes such as divination, war and messianism.
