Abstract(s)
Television news shows bring up-to-date information about the world, which are necessary for the clarification of citizens, in a context of socio-cultural integration. However, there are several news criteria that lead to the selection of certain news items, in an orientation of their own journalistic culture, which determines the order of the day and global events. In a Public Service model register, it is important to ascertain whether the interests of citizens are fulfilled in a duty of socio-cultural awareness. This article aims at a methodological and study level, to determine how the news of “Arts and Shows” are treated with 61 prime-time newscasts from RTP1, from two different time periods (March and November 2015) provided by changes in the Information Department that occurred in 2015. The main results that have been achieved illustrate an increased concern of the Public Television Service on RTP1 news programs to give greater news coverage to the news of national cultural scope, thus seeking to present a more knowledgeable information on their newscasts with their viewers.
