| dc.description.abstract | Nas sociedades ocidentais modernas, a autonomia moral do sujeito, enquanto categoria ética que exprime a dignidade do indivíduo como pessoa, representa a sua capacidade e necessidade de se autodeterminar, de orientar o seu agir e de definir um sentido para a sua existência. É neste enquadramento cultural que a morte é apreendida e que surgem inéditos questionamentos éticos relativos ao final da vida humana, agora configurável graças às inúmeras possibilidades que as ciências biomédicas disponibilizam. Em sentido inverso, a morte e o morrer implicam o repensar do alcance da autonomia moral enquanto condição de uma existência humanamente digna. Se o conceito de autonomia define a pessoa humana como um ser que se pertence a si mesmo, será importante perceber tendências de apropriação e expropriação do morrer, enquadrar as opções disponíveis num horizonte de sentido ético coerente com as exigências da dignidade global da vida humana e de uma autonomia compreendida em perspetiva relacional ou dialógica. Deste modo, ser sujeito até ao fim não depende tanto de um exercício individual de escolhas na fase terminal, mas depende sobretudo de uma «reinserção social» da morte e do desenvolvimento de estratégias de presenças solidárias junto do paciente terminal. | pt_PT |
| dc.description.abstract | In modem Westem societies, the moral autonomy of the subject - as an ethical category that expresses the dignity of the individual as a person - represents one's capacity and necessity of self-determination, of directing one's action, and of defining a meaning for one's existence. lt is in this cultural framework that death is apprehended and that new ethical questionings appear regarding the end of human life, now configurable because of the innumerable possibilities that biomedical sciences provide. Conversely, death and dying imply the reconsideration of the scope of moral autonomy as a condition for a humanly dignified existence. If the concept of autonomy defines the human person as a being belonging to oneself, it is relevant to understand the tendencies of appropriation and expropriation of dying, to frame the available options in a horizon of ethical meaning consistent with the demands of the global dignity of human life and of an autonomy understood in a relational or dialogical perspective. Therefore, being a subject until the end does not depend so much on an individual exercise of choices in the terminal stage, but mostly on a «social reinsertion» of death and on the development of strategies of solidary presence near the terminal patient. | pt_PT |
