Abstract(s)
The prologues of Herodotus and Thucydides’s histories show the conditions that Hannah Arendt considers fundamentals to the rise of Greek historiography: grandiosity and immortality – to which we add politics. On the other hand, the concepts of historie and syngrapho allow us to establish significant differences between the works of the two Greek historians. The philological study of the verb syngrapho reveals many of the specific characteristics of the tucididian text.
