| dc.description.abstract | O presente estudo exploratório pretende investigar as capacidades linguísticas expressivas de crianças surdas com implante coclear por meio de amostras de linguagem espontânea. Para tal, será calculada a Extensão Média do Enunciado em palavras, e analisado o uso produtivo de morfemas gramaticais. Analisou-se o discurso espontâneo de três crianças portuguesas surdas com implante coclear e de três crianças normo-ouvintes, emparelhadas caso a caso, tendo em conta a idade cronológica, o género e a escolaridade parental. As crianças surdas com implante coclear produziram em média menos 2 palavras por enunciado que as crianças normo-ouvintes. Na morfologia, as crianças com implante coclear da amostra revelaram ainda não ser capazes de produzir plurais irregulares e de usar produtivamente os morfemas flexionais nos modos conjuntivo e imperativo. Em geral, o progresso gramatical parece ser mais lento para crianças surdas com implante coclear quando comparado ao dos seus pares ouvintes. Porém, uma implantação precoce, um maior período de tempo com o implante e uma implantação bilateral parecem trazer benefícios para a linguagem expressiva nesta população. | pt_PT |
| dc.description.abstract | The present exploratory study aims at exploring expressive linguistics abilities of cochlear-implanted children by testing spontaneous speech samples. For this purpose, Mean Length of Utterance in words will be measured and the productive use of single grammatical morphemes will be analysed. We analysed the spontaneous speech of three deaf Portuguese children with cochlear implants and three normal-hearing children paired case by case, taking into account the chronological age, gender and parental education. Cochlear-implanted children produced on average less than 2 words per utterance than normal hearing children. In morphology, cochlear implanted children from the sample were not capable to produce irregular plural formatives and to make productive use of inflectional morphemes on main verbs for the subjunctive and imperative modes. In general, the grammatical progress seems to be slower for cochlear-implanted children when compared to their hearing peers. Nevertheless, an earlier implantation, longer implant use and a bilateral implantation seem to bring benefits for the child’s spoken language. | pt_PT |
