| dc.description.abstract | O Padre jesuíta Sebastião Vieira desenvolveu intensa actividade de missionário no Oriente, principalmente no Japão, entre 1602 e 1634, e ali morreu como mártir. As circunstâncias da sua última incursão no Japão, onde as práticas cristãs estavam proibidas desde o édito de Hideyoshi, de 1587, descreve-as ele num relato enviado aos superiores da Companhia de Jesus, no qual se reconhece o seu espírito de missão: reconhecimento da necessidade de sobreviver para cumprir a sua tarefa apesar do desejo de morrer pela causa. | por |
| dc.description.abstract | The Jesuit priest Sebastião Vieira developed intense activity as a missionary in Asia, mostly in Japan, between 1602 and 1634, where he died as a martyr. The circumstances of his last incursion to Japan, where Christianism was forbidden since Hideyoshi’s edict, at 1587, are described by himself on a report sent to his superiors, where his missionary spirit is recognized. Though he knows he needs to survive, to accomplish his task, he desires to die for his faith. | |
