| dc.description.abstract | The purpose of this paper is to contribute to and expand a whole series of papers that compare the piracy rates with economic, legal and cultural factors by country. I update the data and add a few factors into consideration: educational and social. Additional, I identify the piracy trend, study the correlations between social, judicial and economic factors with software piracy and compare the results with empirical evidence. This allows me to hypothesize on what drives piracy. In conclusion, based on the regression analysis results, the variables GDP, the rule of law index and the WEF readiness index are strong determinants to explain the piracy rate all over the world. The variable of human development index is not relevant to explain the piracy rate therefore the income continues to be the relevant factor over the studies analysed. Regarding the different types of spending all of them presented a high significant, meaning that they all are strong determinants to explain the piracy rate. | por |
