Abstract(s)
In nightlife environments (NE) the hegemonic gender norms are reproduced, with an alarming inequality between genders, especially considering the risk of women experiencing more or less severe forms of sexual violence in these contexts. Based on the responses to an online questionnaire, the present study aims to describe the perceptions and behaviors of sexual violence in NE, both in terms of gender and generation, with a focus on the millennial generation. The sample consists of 143 participants (109 women and 34 men) with ages ranging between 25 and 40 years old. Using descriptive and statistical analysis (chi-square test and Mann-Whitney test), statistically significant differences were identified between the two groups in comparison (female and male). The results demonstrate a large disproportion between the number of women who report experiences of sexual violence in NE compared to men. From the group of female respondents who experienced situations of sexual violence, 75% of the participants identified a man as the aggressor. This study aims to contribute to the identification and visibilization of forms of sexual violence affecting women in their participation in the public sphere, in particular, to NE, contributing to the promotion of a safer and more egalitarian nightlife environments.
