Parental involvement in school is a key factor for student’s success. In this
way, the present study aims to understand de Family-School partnership in order to
identify the factors that facilitate and block this partnership. In this study participated
6 class directors and 12 parents from three different private teaching contexts of
Oporto Metropolitan. Th e data was collected through semi-structured interviews.
Using this approach we intended to explore their individual perspective about this
subject, promoting inductive analysis and interpretation. According to the results,
Class Directors recognize the importance of parental involvement promoting their
participation, and adjusting communication forms. Th is positive attitude from Class
Directors is recognized by parents us facilitating the partnership. Th e informal contacts
are very important for Parents, but also for Class Directors. Finally, we point up
some limitations of the study regarding the number of participants and the specificity
of these private teaching contexts.
