Resumo(s)

This thesis examines how artificial intelligence is used in investment decisions in investment firms, and how this integration is affecting human decision authority. The study adopts a qualitative design and draws on eight semi structured interviews with senior investors across family offices, private equity firms and investment advisories in Norway and United Kingdom. The empirical material was analyzed using Braun and Clarke (2006, 2019) thematic reflexive analysis. The findings of the study identify three dimensions og how the use of AI affect decision-making. The first finding is that AI has become operational infrastructure in the investment process: its functioning as a co-analyst used to cover a broader set of information and expands analytical capacity. The second finding covers the collaboration between humans and AI and how it changes the cognitive dynamic of the decision-making. AI as a tool is sued to reduce availability bias, however it simultaneously amplifies confirmation bias. Third, the trust investors have in AI is demonstrated through performance and domain specific. The thesis contributes with qualitative empirical evidence of AI as investment infrastructure and how it shapes the information environment within the investment context. It identifies how the information environment is affecting cognitive bias dynamic and how cognitive dynamics is shaping human boundaries of trust in AI generated tools. The practical implication is that integration of AI in investments may need to be supplemented with governance mechanisms. This makes the use of human-AI collaboration consistent and responsible rather than being dependent on individual discipline.
