Purpose: The objective of this study is to validate the best practices currently in use following the reformulation of the intra-vitreal injection protocol at the Ophthalmology CRI of ULS Almada-Seixal, starting in 2025. This protocol is based on the most recent studies in the field and aims to assess the outcomes resulting from this change in clinical practice by comparing the first half of 2025 with retrospective data from 2022 to 2024 regarding the incidence of endophthalmitis. Setting: NOA+ Clínic from ULS Almada-Seixal. Methods: For the completion of this study, a retrospective cohort study was conducted, analyzing data from the years 2022, 2023, and 2024, followed by a prospective phase beginning in January 2025, after the reformulation of the intra-vitreal injection procedure guidelines. Results The results will enable a comparison of the incidence of endophthalmitis before and after the introduction of the new procedure guidelines, providing valuable support for the clinical best practices associated with this procedure. Conclusions: As nurses, collaborating in the standardization of procedures and ensuring patient safety through the proper implementation of best clinical practices is essential. Staying abreast of new scientific evidence allows for improvements in the quality of care provided to patients, reduces complications associated with the procedure, and promotes patient satisfaction.eng
