Tem-se verificado, nas últimas décadas, uma profunda transformação no conceito tradicional de património cultural. Este, ao democratizar-se, passou a abranger também uma diversificada gama de objectos – que são, simultaneamente, fontes históricas –, inclusive do âmbito do trabalho, do quotidiano e das “coisas banais”. Consequentemente, urge estudar, preservar e reutilizar numerosas estruturas industriais, já desactivadas, mas que apresentam potencialidades para entrarem num novo “ciclo de vida”, continuando ao serviço da comunidade. Torna-se, pois, necessário requalificar certos espaços, urbanos ou rurais, adaptando-os a novas funções, culturais, sociais e/ou económicas. Assim, reforçar-se-á e fomentar-se-á o chamado turismo cultural, já importante, em nossos dias, mas que tenderá a desenvolver-se consideravelmente, a médio e longo prazo.
Over the last decades, the traditional concept of cultural heritage has been changing deeply. This concept has started to include a wide range of objects – which are simultaneously historical sources – including work, daily life and “trivialities”. Consequently, it is necessary to study, preserve and reuse various deactivated industrial premises that have potentialities of beginning a new “cycle of life” and which are useful to the community. Therefore, it is necessary to requalify certain urban and rural spaces adapting them to new social, economic and cultural functions. Thus, the cultural tourism will develop itself considerably at mid and long terms.
