- Validación del índice de bien-estar personal en personas con enfermedad renal crónicaPublication . Sousa, Luís Manuel Mota de; Marques-Vieira, Cristina María Alves; Severino, Sandy Silva Pedro; Rosado, Juan Luis Pozo; José, Helena Maria GuerreiroObjective: to verify the psychometric properties of the Personal Wellbeing Index (PWI) in people with chronic kidney disease on hemodialysis. Method: This is a methodological study. A random sample consisted of 171 people with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) who underwent hemodialysis in two clinics in the region of Lisbon, Portugal. Data collection was conducted from May to June 2015. The psychometric properties were evaluated: Validity (construct, convergent predictive and discriminative), reliability through internal consistency (Cronbach α) and stability (Spearman-Brown correlation coefficient and intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC)). Results: PWI has a dimension adjusted to the data set. Satisfaction with health is the largest contributor to the PWI. It shows convergent validity with Subjective Happiness and Positive Affect and Negative Affect. It has discriminative power of nationality. The Cronbach α was 0,82. Retest test for the questionnai re 0, 92 and ICC = 0,95, for the interview 0,85 and ICC = 0,89. Conclusions: The Portuguese version of PWI is valid and reproducible in people with CKD, both by questionnaire and by interview.
- Attitude towards vaccination among health science students before the COVID-19 pandemicPublication . Pérez-Rivas, Francisco Javier; Gallego-Lastra, Ramón del; Esteban-Garcimartín, Ana; Marques-Vieira, Cristina Maria Alves; Ajejas, Maria Julia BazánHealth science students are tomorrow's health professionals, the duties of whom could include vaccination. This work examines the general attitude towards vaccination in students attending the Faculty of Nursing, Physiotherapy and Chiropody at a university in Madrid, Spain, using the 'Attitudes and Behaviour With Regard To Vaccination Among Health Science Students Questionnaire'. The results were subjected to multivariate analysis to identify the influence of sex, the degree being pursued, and 'course year'. The number of students vaccinated against influenza in the campaign preceding the present study was also recorded, as were the factors that influenced decision-making in this regard. A total of 934 students completed the questionnaire. Their beliefs regarding vaccination were positive (mean score 3.23 points out of 4), as was their behaviour (3.35/4). Their general attitude (all variables taken together) was therefore also good (3.27/4). Only 26.8% of the students had been vaccinated against influenza. Beliefs scores among the students of nursing in their more senior course years were significantly better than those recorded for all other groups. These students also showed the best general attitude towards vaccination and formed the largest group vaccinated against influenza. The results obtained are encouraging since nursing students are the most likely of future healthcare professionals to be involved in vaccination programmes.
- Validation of the positive and negative affect schedule in people with chronic kidney diseasePublication . Sousa, Luís Manuel Mota de; Marques-Vieira, Cristina Maria Alves; Severino, Sandy Silva Pedro; Rosado, Juan Luis Pozo; José, Helena Maria GuerreiroAim: to analyze the psychometric properties of the Portuguese version of the Positive and Negative Affect Schedule scale in people with chronic kidney disease on hemodialysis. Method: this was a methodological study. A random sample of 171 people chronic kidney disease who receive hemodialysis in two clinics in the region of Lisbon, Portugal. Data was collected from May to June 2015. The psychometric properties were evaluated: Validity (construct, convergent and predictive), reliability (Cronbach’s α) and stability (test-retest). Results: showed that the Positive and Negative Affect Schedule scale has two distinct dimensions of positive and negative affect, reliable and stable both when obtained by interview or by questionnaire. Conclusion: the validity and reproducibility of the Portuguese version of the Positive and Negative Affect Schedule scale in people with chronic kidney disease are consistent with the original version and the English version of this scale.
- The fear of falls in the caregivers of institutionalized eldersPublication . Baixinho, Cristina Lavareda; Dixe, Maria dos Anjos; Henriques, Maria Adriana; Marques-Vieira, Cristina; Sousa, LuísAIMS: To understand how the fear of falls emerges and manifests itself in caregivers of institutionalized elders. METHOD: It is a qualitative study, based on the Grounded Theory and carried out with 24 informal caregivers, 5 nurses, 2 physicians and 2 directors of two Portuguese nursing homes. Data collection took place through interviews, participant observation, and documentation analysis, between October 2016 and January 2018. Data was collected and analyzed simultaneously, following the stages of open, axial, and selective coding. RESULTS: The comparative analysis of the findings identified the conceptual category "Fear of falls in the caregivers of institutionalized elders". The main category is associated with the categories: maintaining safety, hidden fear of falls, the perceived self-efficacy in the prevention of falls, falls and interpersonal relations, previous experiences, and team support. CONCLUSIONS: The fear has an influence on the self-efficacy perceived in the prevention of falls; the quality of the teamwork, in turn, is affected by previous negative experiences and by the support of the team.
- Validação do diagnóstico de enfermagem impaired walking (00088) em idososPublication . Vieira, Cristina Maria Alves Marques; Berenguer, Sílvia Maria Alves Caldeira; Sousa, Lisete Maria Ribeiro deIntrodução: O diagnóstico de enfermagem impaired walking integra a NANDA Internacional desde 1998.
- Validation of the falls efficacy scale - international in a sample of Portuguese elderlyPublication . Marques-Vieira, Cristina Maria Alves; Sousa, Luís Manuel Mota de; Sousa, Lisete Maria Ribeiro de; Berenguer, Sílvia Maria Alves CaldeiraOBJECTIVE: to translate and adapt Falls Efficacy Scale - International (FES-I). To analyze the psychometric properties of the FES-I Portugal version. METHOD: psychometric study. Sample consisting of 170 elderly people residing in the Autonomous Region of Madeira. A two- part form was used (sociodemographic characterization and FES-I Portugal). The cross-cultural adaptation was performed and the following psychometric properties were evaluated: validity (construct, predictive, and discriminant), reliability (Cronbach's alpha), and inter-rater reliability. RESULTS: the results allow us to verify a dimension of less demanding physical activities and another of more demanding physical activities. The inter-rater reliability study was 0.62, with an interclass correlation coefficient of 0.859, for a 95% confidence interval. The internal consistency of the Portuguese version was 0.962. CONCLUSION: the validity and reliability of the FES-I Portugal are consistent with the original version and proved to be appropriate instruments for evaluating the "impaired walking" and "risk of falls" nursing diagnoses in the older people.
- Nursing diagnosis “impaired walking” in elderly patients: integrative literature reviewPublication . Vieira, Cristina Maria Alves Marques; Sousa, Luís Manuel Mota de; Carias, João Filipe de Matos Machado; Caldeira, Sílvia Maria AlvesThe impaired walking nursing diagnosis has been included in NANDA International classification taxonomy in 1998, and this review aims to identify the defining characteristics and related factors in elderly patients in recent literature. Integrative literature review based on the following guiding question: Are there more defining characteristics and factors related to the nursing diagnosis impaired walking than those included in NANDA International classification taxonomy in elderly patients? Search conducted in 2007-2013 on international and Portuguese databases. Sample composed of 15 papers. Among the 6 defining characteristics classified at NANDA International, 3 were identified in the search results, but 13 were not included in the classification. Regarding the 14 related factors that are classified, 9 were identified in the sample and 12 were not included in the NANDA International taxonomy. This review allowed the identification of new elements not included in NANDA International Taxonomy and may contribute to the development of taxonomy and nursing knowledge.
- Effect of humor intervention on well-being, depression, and sense of humor in hemodialysis patientsPublication . Sousa, Luís Manuel Mota; Antunes, Ana Vanessa; Marques-Vieira, Cristina Maria Alves; Silva, Paulo César Lopes; Severino, Sandy Silva Pedro; José, Helena Maria GuerreiroObjective: To evaluate whether visualization of humor movies during hemodialysis sessions improves subjective well-being and sense of humor, while decreasing stress / anxiety and depression levels, in hemodialysis patients. Material and Method: A pre-test / post-test design study with a non-equivalent control group was carried out in patients with chronic kidney disease undergoing hemodialysis, in two hemodialysis units of Diaverum Clinics. The study included 34 patients in the intervention group and 33 patients in the control group. The intervention consisted in the visualization of humor movies during hemodialysis sessions for ten sessions over a four-week period. The control group watched neutral movies. Data were collected using a sociodemographic and health information questionnaire (age, gender, nationality, education, occupation, marital status, dialysis session length, presence of hypertension and diabetes); the Subjective Happiness Scale; the satisfaction with life in general; the Depression Anxiety Stress Scale 21, and the Multidimensional Sense of Humor Scale. Student t-tests and t-tests for paired samples were performed. The response to change was evaluated using: the percentage of change, ceiling effect and floor effect, effect size, and the standardized response mean. Results: The levels of subjective happiness and sense of humor increased in the intervention group, but there were no significant increases in satisfaction with life in general. Only depression levels decreased significantly in the intervention group. Conclusions: The visualization of humor movies as a nursing intervention improved the levels of subjective happiness and sense of humor, while decreasing the perception of depressive symptoms.
- Subjective wellbeing, sense of humor and psychological health in hemodialysis patientsPublication . Sousa, Luís Manuel Mota; Antunes, Ana Vanessa; Marques-Vieira, Cristina Maria Alves; Silva, Paulo César Lopes; Valentim, Olga Maria Martins de Sousa; José, Helena Maria GuerreiroObjective: To investigate the relationship between satisfaction with life in general, sense of humor, and anxiety, depression and stress with subjective happiness in chronic kidney disease patients undergoing hemodialysis. Material and Methods: A cross-sectional and correlational study was developed in two units of the Diaverum dialysis clinic and one hospital unit, with 183 chronic kidney disease patients undergoing hemodialysis. An instrument was used to characterize the sociodemographic and clinical profile of the sample (age, gender, nationality, education, occupation, marital status, dialysis sessions length, presence of hypertension and diabetes): the subjective happiness scale; the satisfaction with life in general; depression, anxiety and stress scale 21; and multidimensional sense of humor scale. Inferential procedures included Spearman correlation coefficients, and multiple linear regression adjusting to age, marital status, professional activity and diabetes. Results: Subjective Happiness was positively correlated with satisfaction with life in general, and the three dimensions of Sense of Humor. Nevertheless, subjective happiness was negatively correlated with stress / anxiety and depression. Satisfaction with life in general, humor production and social use of humor, and attitude towards humor had a positive relationship with subjective happiness. However, depression had a negative relationship with subjective happiness. Conclusions: Higher levels of subjective happiness were associated with higher levels of satisfaction with life in general, and sense of humor, however they were also associated with lower levels of depression in patients undergoing hemodialysis.
