- Risk assessment profiles for caregiver burden in family caregivers of persons living with Alzheimer’s diseasePublication . Brito, Laura; Cepa, Beatriz; Brito, Cláudia; Leite, Ângela; Pereira, M. GraçaAlzheimer’s disease (AD) places a profound global challenge, driven by its escalating prevalence and the multifaceted strain it places on individuals, families, and societies. Family caregivers (FCs), who are pivotal in supporting family members with AD, frequently endure substantial emotional, physical, and psychological demands. To better understand the determinants of family caregiving strain, this study employed machine learning (ML) to develop predictive models identifying factors that contribute to caregiver burden over time. Participants were evaluated across sociodemographic clinical, psychophysiological, and psychological domains at baseline (T1; N = 130), six months (T2; N = 114), and twelve months (T3; N = 92). Results revealed three distinct risk profiles, with the first focusing on T2 data, highlighting the importance of distress, forgiveness, age, and heart rate variability. The second profile integrated T1 and T2 data, emphasizing additional factors like family stress. The third profile combined T1 and T2 data with sociodemographic and clinical features, underscoring the importance of both assessment moments on distress at T2 and forgiveness at T1 and T2, as well as family stress at T1. By employing computational methods, this research uncovers nuanced patterns in caregiver burden that conventional statistical approaches might overlook. Key drivers include psychological factors (distress, forgiveness), physiological markers (heart rate variability), contextual stressors (familial dynamics, sociodemographic disparities). The insights revealed enable early identification of FCs at higher risk of burden, paving the way for personalized interventions. Such strategies are urgently needed as AD rates rise globally, underscoring the imperative to safeguard both patients and the caregivers who support them.
- Digital nomad stories : narratives of LisbonPublication . Schafer, Paloma Franchesca; Soares, Luís Lourenço Santos SilvaThe rise of digital technologies has led to the emergence of a community of locationindependent workers, commonly referred to as digital nomads. Despite their growing presence, research is limited on how individuals navigate identity formation and social integration in new environments. This study investigates the motivations, challenges, and identity dynamics of digital nomads, through the collection of 6 life stories of digital nomads living in Lisbon, Portugal. Grounded in the conceptual frameworks of sociologists Giddens, Appadurai, and Castells, the study reveals the role mobility, community and digital technology play in identity evolution of digital nomads in Lisbon. The findings reveal that while digital nomads leverage their mobility for freedom and flexibility, they also face challenges related to local community integration. The study contributes to the fields of modern mobility, globalization, and the future of work by offering insights into the lived experiences of nomads. Recommendations are presented for future research on the long-term implications of digital nomadism.
- Communication strategies of formula one on Instagram : a case study of Ferrari and Mclaren in media lifePublication . Caissée, Elisa; Fonseca, Isadora de AtaídeThis study aims to analyse, observe, and provide an overview of the Formula One social media landscape and the strategies used to reach the audience. The investigation emphasises the following research problem: What methods are employed by Formula One teams to leverage their social media presence on Instagram to foster audience engagement? The methodological choice is a qualitative study involving a content analysis and a case study construction of two Formula One teams: McLaren and Ferrari. The conclusion is that both analysed tiles leverage the Instagram platform to reinforce their existing connections with their audiences, creating and reaching a new audience segment. This is done through various strategies, from humanising the sport, the athletes practising it, and the teams to real-time updates that make the follower a well-integrated part of the sport. Both teams communicate in alignment with their brand values and use different leverages to achieve that.
